| Tragedy struck my wife's aunt on Sunday (Jan 4, 04) when her little Yorkie "Tiffany" (Scarlett's sister) got ahold of a package of snail bait and was fatally poisoned. Brands of snail bait that contain metaldehyde are highly poisonous to dogs and are also very palatable so dogs will readily consume the product. I can't stress enough how important it is to go through your house and identify all of the toxic and harmful substances that are stored in various places and move them to one central location totally inaccessible to your pets. In fact, I discovered a box of snail bait on the shelf in our storage room right after I found out Tiffany was poisoned....another tragedy waiting to happen! I immediately removed it to the outdoor shed as all it would have taken was a careless bump or a cat climbing on the shelf to knock it over and my dogs could have been poisoned too. |
